Ordering Subway online is now the better experience in almost every respect: you get the full menu instead of the board, you can see every topping, discounts only exist here, and you skip the queue. The one thing it costs you is the ability to say "a bit more of that" while watching. Here is how to get the same result without being at the counter.
App or website?
Both order from the same system. The app is where personalised Offers and MVP Rewards points live, and it remembers past orders for one-tap repeats. Subway.com is better for large or catering orders on a laptop and works fine without installing anything, but you will see fewer offers. If you order more than occasionally, use the app.
Step by step
- Pick the store first. Menus, prices and offers are set per restaurant, so changing store later can silently change your basket. Use our store locator guide if you are not sure which one to choose.
- Choose pickup, curbside or delivery. Pickup and curbside cost nothing extra; delivery adds fees and, at some stores, higher menu prices.
- Build the sandwich in order: size → bread → protein and cheese → toasting → vegetables → sauces → extras. Every layer is a screen; nothing is assumed.
- Use the special-instructions field. This is where "light sauce", "sauce on the side", "cut in half", "extra crispy toast" and "vegetables in a separate container" go. Store staff do read it.
- Open Offers before you pay. Discounts do not apply retroactively — see our coupons guide.
- Set the time. ASAP is typically 8–15 minutes. Scheduling is the single best feature for lunch: order at 11:15, collect at 12:05, no queue.
Getting a better sandwich through a screen
- Order toppings you want plentiful as "extra". Online portions default to standard; extra is often free for vegetables.
- Ask for wet ingredients separately if you are not eating immediately. Tomato and lettuce in a cup keeps a toasted sub intact.
- Halve your sauce. Online sauce portions run generous; see our sauce guide.
- Save it as a favourite once it is right. Then you never have to rebuild it.
Group and office orders
For four or more people, build each sub as a separate item and add the recipient's name in the instructions field for that item — stores label wrappers from those notes. Beyond about eight people, switch to platters instead: it is cheaper per head and quicker to serve. Costs and lead times are in our catering guide.
When something goes wrong
Two things fix nearly every problem. First, check the order at the store before you leave — a missing sauce is a ten-second fix at the counter and a lost cause at home. Second, if you have already left, report it in the app's order history rather than calling: app support can credit the order, and the store usually cannot reverse a digital payment. Keep the wrapper and receipt until you have eaten.
Payment, gift cards and points
The app accepts cards, digital wallets and Subway gift cards, and gift-card payment still earns points. Points post within a day or two; if they do not, the order history screen has a "missing points" path. Details on what points are worth are in our MVP Rewards guide.
App features, fees and participation vary by franchise and change over time. Order only through the official Subway app or subway.com — we are an independent guide and do not process orders.
